The Dark Night - Batman

OMG !!! This was an exciting, crazy dark movie and I loved it. The characters were amazing and brilliantly cast and Heath Ledger deserves an OSCAR for his performance as the insane and brilliant part of Joker. He put on a phenomenal performance and should be remembered for his incredible acting ability. The licking of the corner of his mouth and the scars and make up truly painted the perfect joker character and he pulled it off with immaculate style. It is such a pity that we have lost such an incredible addition to the new era of Morgan Freeman’s and Bruce Willis, Al Pacino and Rob De Nero. Heath was a legend in this movie.

the-joker.jpg

The Two faced villain was also written in beautifully and surprised us as we were bored of the Joker idea and character. So not only did Heath revive the Joker the character of the Two faced man was brilliantly added to an already brilliant cast and movie.

The dark and dramatic setting of the movie added to its brilliance and the Butler and Damsel in distress were perfectly cast. It was action packed full of unexpected twists and surprises and no one could have expected the story line or ending. I am such a fan and would watch it over and over again to see Heath in his brilliance and Batman with his deep and serious voice.

GO BATMAN !!!!!!!

Peace GOTHAM CITY !!!

I absolutely loved the movie. It made me want to live in New York. And the actors were all very interesting, they were brilliantly cast. It was a heartwarming easy to watch Saturday afternoon DVD movie and I would give it a 6/10.

Romantic comedy: Will Hayes, a 30-something Manhattan dad is in the midst of a divorce when his 10 year old daughter, Maya, starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. Will’s story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on the Clinton campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as a idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women. On the campaign, Will’s best buddy is Russell McCormack. They not only have similar political aspirations, they share the same type of girl problems, too. Will hopelessly attempts a “PG” version of his story for his daughter ad changes the names so Maya has to guess who he finally married. Is her mother Will’s college sweetheart, the dependable girl next-door Emily? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante, he apolitical April? Or is she the free-spirited but ambitious journalist? As Maya puts together the pieces of her dad’s romantic puzzle, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it’s definitely never too late to go back…and maybe even possible to find a happy ending. Written by Orange

On the day she has her first sex ed class, 10-year-old Maya grills her divorcing dad Will Hayes about her conception. That night, he fills her in, changing the names of the women who were in his life then to keep her guessing which is her mom: Emily, his college girlfriend when he came to New York from Wisconsin for Clinton’s ‘92 campaign; April, edgy, a little cynical, who misses her father; and, Summer, a writer attracted to older, established men. In demanding the story, Maya’s motivation is clear: to get her dad to fall in love again with her mom. Will this parent trap work? In the telling, might Will discover his true Penelope? Definitely. Maybe. Written by {jhailey@hotmail.com}

You dont mess with the Zohan

This was an EXCELLENT slap stick comedy ! And people should just sit back and enjoy the movie for what it is. I think there is an important message in the film and they are making a light comedy of a war that has been going on for over 2000 years. Come on people no one cares anymore except the ones fighting still. Adam Sandler was absolutely fabulous in the movie and his Hebrew accent was done really well.

From IMDb …I’ve been a fan of Adam Sandler for much of my life. . . all the way back to his SNL and ‘Airheads’ days. I’ve seen him go through many phases, from some great films like ‘Punch-Drunk Love,’ ‘Reign Over Me,’ and ‘Big Daddy’ to some of his lower-end films like ‘Eight Crazy Nights’ and ‘Little Nicky.’

‘You Don’t Mess With the Zohan’ is not one of his best films, but it’s still enjoyable. Personally, I’d place it along the comedic quality of ‘Billy Madison’. . . contains mostly sight gags and juvenile humor. But, c’mon. . . sometimes that’s what we need. Our world is going to Hell, so shouldn’t we have some relief from the pain and torment we must witness on a daily basis? No. It’s not a great film. But it’s funny and stupid and entertaining. And that’s the reason to see it. . . don’t expect a comedic masterpiece like ‘His Girl Friday’ or ‘Forrest Gump.’ Expect what the film actually as and accept it as such. . . if it’s not for you, then it wasn’t MEANT for you.

This is the story about a Mossad agent Zohan Dvir, who fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist. He romances his clients by giving them “special services” in the back room. However, he is eventually recognized, and risks losing his newfound life and career. Freedom Writers - True Story

Movies No Comments »

freedom.jpg

If you ever think you have it bad and your life is hard, this story eloquently reminds us of the harder times people faced in the past like for example the Holocaust !

Hilary Swank stars in this gripping story of inner city kids raised on drive-by shootings and hard-core attitude - and the teacher who gives them the one thing they need most: a voice of there own. Dropped into the free-fire zone of a school torn by violence and racial tension, teacher Erin Gruwell battles an uncaring system in a fight to make the classroom matter in her students lives. Now, telling their own stories, and hearing the stories of others, a group of supposedly “unteachable” teens will discover the power of tolerance, reclaim their shattered lives, and change their world.

This film was terrific! Very good! The acting by everyone, especially by Hilary Swank, was great. If you are in the mood for an inspirational film than you should go see this film. It puts you in a really good mood and makes you feel great! ‘Freedom Writers’ was filled with drama, humor, and more. It was a really nice film and a must see. ‘Freedom Writers’, has something for everybody. It is a film that people will love no matter what and who they are. A++++++ **** Go see this great film! It will literally set you in a good mood. P.S. It will probably make you cry so bring that special tissue box used for whatever your tears need!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Movies No Comments »

sarah.jpg

This movie was great, no nonsense fabulous humor - you would laugh your head off. At least I did.

When you’ve got a good job and a world-famous girlfriend, you’ve got it all, right?!? Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a Coming of Age story told well and acted better. Peter Bretter (played by Jason Segal and also the movies writer) is a man too comfortable, sitting on his couch-world, to grasp that everyone must grow up and in the process, change or people will leave him behind.

Peter writes/performs the musical score to a successful TV drama in which his girlfriend, Sarah Marshall, is the lead actress. Sarah leaves Peter, and thus starts Peters journey with the help of friends, to realize that he didnt really like the life he was living. They help him forget Sarah Marshall to grow and change his life for the better.

Peter’s half-brother (Bill Hader as Brian Bretter) is the reflection Peter sees in the mirror and is reluctant to embrace –in a relationship with responsibilities to a partner that goes beyond physical presence. [Interesting to note the evolution of Mr. Segal from his supporting role as Jason in 2007s Knocked Up another coming of age movie for 20-somethings…the movie is filled with internal compare/contrasts to itself and the Actor’s other works and real-life asperations. How much is intentional and how much is coincident is left to the viewer, but this is a smartly written adult comedy.]

Kristen Bell as the title’s “Sarah Marshall” does well with the material — her character is mult-dimensional as she is both the villain and the victim. While her character emotionally hurts Peter, she has cause as revealed in a fairly depicted series of flashbacks. [It is interesting to note, Sarah’s desire to break out from being a successful TV actress to movies is an interesting simile to Peter’s desire to break out from being a successful TV mood musician to aspiration to become a Rock Opera composer and Ms. Bell plays it well from the heart as if she also longs break out of the Veronica Mars role to her first leading actress role.]

But it is not just Peter that Sarah is running from; she has run into the arms of Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), a famous lead singing rock star. Snow almost steals the movie, with his philosophical musings and ability to play the guy you want to hate but wish was my best friend despite stealing my girlfriend role perfectly. In some ways Peter sees Snow as the worldly guy he wishes he was, but Peter realizes that he cannot be like Snow and force the world to take him as he is and be successful, but rather adapt to the world in his own terms to succeed. [Of course there are parallels when Snow plays to the crowd and to his girl and when Peter plays to another crowd and his girl…the men are more similar on stage than they realize, which may be why Peter likes Snow.] At the critical point, it is Snow’s unwillingness to grow that has him to move on and gives the opportunity he thought he sought — the chance to reunite with Sarah.

However, prior to getting to that point in the story, Peter gets off his real and proverbial couch to meet a series of people whom help him “forget” Sarah. Pride, self-worth and compromise are explored well without bogging down nor being too serious. Central to Peter’s growth are Chuck (Paul Rudd) and Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis). Chuck is the surfing instructor who sees the hurt behind Peters eyes and teaches him to stand on a surf board (another analogy for standing up for himself/getting back up when one is knocked down). While played at times for laughs, there are real life-lessons in what Chuck, Rachel and the other characters offer Peter. Ultimately, Peter stands up and realizes that his affection for Rachel is real and worth the risks to help out a friend. Through them, Peter breaks out and becomes the man he learns he wants to be and achieves the personal satisfaction and professional success he seeks.

The movie is rated R for (strong male and some female) nudity, sex scenes, language and alcohol use discussion about drugs. It is not recommended for young children.

1408

408.jpg

I wasnt really scared in this movie. It was really not that great, it was suspenseful but not scary.  Glad I never watched it in the cinema, perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The cynical and skeptical writer Mike Enslin writes books evaluating supernatural phenomena in hotels, graveyards and other haunted places, usually debunking the mystery. While writing his last book, he travels from Los Angeles to New York to spend one night in the evil room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel, which is permanently unavailable for guests. The reluctant manager Mr. Gerald Olin objects to his request and offers an upgrade, expensive booze and finally the reports relating the death of more than fifty guests along decades in the cursed room. However, Mike threatens Mr. Oiln, promising to sue the hotel, and finally checks in the room. Along the night, he finds that guests of room 1408 can check out when they like, but they can never leave the room alive. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Based on the short Stephen King horror story of the same name, 1408 is about supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two successful books on supernatural phenomena. As research for his latest book, Enslin is determined to check out the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room. He believes that 1408 is just a myth perpetuated by stories and rumors that Enslin has collected for his past works. However, hotel manager Mr. Olin has strong objections to Enslin’s stay and only warns him of possible danger to come. Enslin is determined to go anyway. But what Mike Enslin is about to experience is no myth, as 1408 truly is a room where the guests don’t check out by noon. Written by mystic80

I absolutely loved this movie and it made me appreciate my life and health so much more. It was truly heartbreaking but their perfect love for each other made up for the heart sore and pain. Their characters where beautifully written and the two created magic on the big screen.

This is a story about living! The chemistry of the stars is fantastic, the music throughout the film is fantastic. Two people who fulfill each other’s dreams in ways that most couples never experience. Total honesty, is part of living life fully. This couple shows you how to create a a life worth living.
Griffin is divorced, living in a flat in Manhattan while his sons and ex live in the family home in Westchester. He gets bad news from his oncologist: cancerous lesions have spread through his chest, and he has only a year or so to live. He audits a psychology class on death and dying at a nearby college where he chats up a woman who turns out to be an assistant dean. She’s Phoenix; she smiles but keeps her distance, warming to him slowly. He tells her nothing of his situation. At his apartment a few days later, she finds a stash of books on death, dying, and terminal illness: will she put two and two together, and what will she do about it?  Written by {jhailey@hotmail.com}

The Happening

Movies No Comments »

mv5bmtc2mjcwnji0mf5bml5banbnxkftztcwmjm4njm3mq_v1_sx94_sy140_.jpg

The film opens in New York. People start to get confused in Central Park, repeating their words, standing still and sometimes walking backwards. We hear a few screams. A woman reading on a bench takes her silver chopstick-style hair pin out of her hair and stabs herself in the neck with it.

In the next shot, we see a science teacher named Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg), talking about the event science can not explain about thousands of disappearing bees, no bodies left, no trace. A student offers the opinion that this is a natural event that we will never fully understand. While speculating on the phenomenon that is the disapearing bees, Elliot is suddenly called out of class to a staff meeting warning about an appearent “terrorist attack” in New York in which terrorist have appearently realeased some kind of gas in Central Park, and advising that school is canceled. As they leave Elliot confesses to his friend Julian (John Leguizamo), a maths teacher, that he and his wife are having some problems.

Eventually the movie moves on to show Rittenhouse Park where a cop on the road shoots himself in the head. A driver gets out of his car, takes the gun, and also shoots himself in the head. We see a pair of high heels walk over and a hand starts to pick up the gun, then a shot.

Meanwhile on a building site, workers on the ground are chatting when all of a sudden a body falls. Panicked, thinking the worker just fell off the roof by mistake, they rush over to his boken body (yes, this whole movie is very graphic and this scene shows his legs and arms with bones snapped from the fall into inpossible, bloody-ed positions). While over the body, another thud, another worker. They look at him confused, one is possible, two is unlikely, and when the third falls, it seems impossible. Then yet another and another, crashing to earth. When they look up they see many running off the edge, appearently by their own will, looking completely calm, and sure of their actions.

Elliot and his wife Alma (Zooey Deschanel) flee Philadelphia on a train, with Julian, and his daughter Jess. On the train people start to get reports by cellphone that the attacks have been reported at their destination, and in many other places. Alma is getting repeated and insistant calls on her phone from someone called Joey, and she lies to Elliot about it.

The train ends up leaving them in a small rural town, as the conductors have lost radio contact with everyone else. At a diner they see a newscast that suggests the suicides are not caused by a terrorist attack, but by a natural phenomena. Julian, who has lost contact with his wife, starts to panic as some lady shows Elliot a youtube type video she was sent on her iphone showing a man walk into a lion’s den at a zoo, and taunting the lions with his hands to try to get them to attack him (there’s a graphic shot of him staggering with both his arms eaten off). Julian leaves Jess with Elliot and Alma to go and look for his wife in Princeton, when he is offered a ride by people heading that way. (When he gets there it is infected, and, after the driver of the car he is in crashes deliberately into a tree Julian slashes his wrists with broken windscreen glass and dies.)

Elliot and Alma decide, along with everybody else, to flee for the state line, as the attacks seem only to be affecting the northeast US. A nice couple who run a plant nursery offer to take them in their car. The man suggests to Elliot and Alma that the toxin is produced by plants. He explains the way plants can communicate with other plants, and the way they can release chemicals to get rid of specific pests.

While trying to reach the state line they see bodies ahead in the road. Turning back they meet many other cars, all converging on a country road junction; all report bodies back the way they have come. Organised by an army private they abandon the cars and strike out on foot, heading for a small remote housing development one man (a realtor) knows about. It’s new, and small and not on any maps except local ones, so they hope it will be safe from the terrorists since it appears they are focusing on large cities and roads.

From the junction one group leaves immediately, but most take a minute to get things from their cars, so walking across the fields they are in two groups. The smaller group (10-12 people), with Elliot, Alma and Jess is in front. The larger (20-25 people), including a soldier and the plant couple, is behind them by 3 or 4 minutes. This larger group gets affected, and the soldier become delusional (shouting something about how he is a soldier and his gun is his friend, and he will not leave it). Then Elliot’s group hears the gunshots as one by one they (presumably) use the soldier’s gun to kill themselves. Elliot starts to believe that it is indeed the plants, and that the toxin is triggered by large groups of people. He yells at everyone to split up to smaller groups, and the group peels off into three smaller groups, all running away in different directions.

Alma tells Elliot that if they are going to die, she wants to tell him something. One night when she told Elliot she was working late she went out for tiramisu with Joey from work, but that’s all that happened.

Elliot, Alma, Jess and two teenagers find a showhome for a new development. There is some comic relief as Elliot talks to a plant he sees blowing inside, and introduces himself, saying he is giving good vibes so it won’t harm him. It turns out the plant is plastic, but he keeps talking for a little just in case - feeling like an idiot. As they leave they look back, and see two small groups of people arrive at the showhome, forming one larger group (12-15 people approx). That many people trigger the toxin, and they stand around confused, except for one man who starts up a large commercial lawnmower, then lays in the grass in front of it as it rips him apart. (We assumed the camera would cut away, but it doesn’t! As previously started, this movie is extremely graphic!)

Our five people all end up on the front porch of a boarded-up house, asking for food, while Jess plays on a rope swing suspended from a tree branch (the swing and the tree seemed very chilling and climactic, but nothing actually happened). The inhabitants of the house refuse to offer food or shelter, and the two teenagers start to get very aggressive, kicking at the door and shouting at the people inside. The inhabitants shoot the two teenagers dead: one through the chest and the second through the head. Elliot is horrified.

Elliot, Alma and Jess move on till they find an old house with no power, which they think is abandoned. A spooky old lady lives there, who chooses to remain out of contact with the whole world. She doesn’t want to know about the event in the outside world, however she gives them supper and a bed for the night.

We see a newscast discussing the toxin (our protagonists don’t, as the house has no TV). A scientist is suggesting that judging from the severity and number of the attacks, and assuming some similarities to other kinds of natural toxins like ocean algae, the attacks will peak at 9am the next day, and very quickly fall away to nothing following that (there’s a graph that shows a drastic tail-off of toxin activity).

In the morning when Elliot wakes up the old lady tells him that he, Alma and Jess have to leave (she seems completely bonkers). She then goes outside into the garden, pauses, and starts walking backwards; the toxin has affected her. As Elliott cowers inside the house the old lady walks around the porch and headbutts the window, leaving glass splinters in her face and eye, and also letting in the wind (and the toxin).

Elliot runs through the house trying to find Alma and Jess. They are outside in a spring house (a remnant from the pre-Civil War Underground Railway), he is stuck in the main house; however he can talk to them through a speaking tube. He explains that the toxin now seems to be set off by even one person alone.

Elliot decides that if he is going to die he doesn’t want to die alone. They all leave their safe hiding places and walk into the middle of the garden and hold hands. The wind blows. Nothing happens. IT had ended.

Three months later and they are all living back in Philly. Jess is off to school by bus. Alma is doing a pregnancy test; it’s positive. On the TV is a scientist warning that the event was like a red tide; the first sign that the planet is rejecting humans as pests. The host says that if that were true it would be happening in other places.

Cut to the gardens at the Palace of Versailles. Two guys are walking discussing plans for after work that evening. Cue distant scream; one guy starts to repeat his words about a bike, everyone stands still; other guy says (in French) “Oh my God”.

End credits.
