Bayside Ster Kinekor - Is popcorn worth the wait

Guys come on it is really time for an upgrade or change of management. There is always a queue at the snacks counter and it takes 30 min to get to the front. Then when you finally get there the strawberry slush puppy is always out or just a watery mess.

Each time we go many people get frustrated and they miss the beginning of their movie. It is really frustrating and people do go to the movies to relax. There is an absolute mess each time we go. And believe me many people are pissed off when we are there. I have written about this before where kids run around causing havoc in the movie and a simple warning never scares them or stops them. It is very disruptive and quite irritating.

And if it was not for the fact that Parklands/Blouberg/Tableview have absolutely nowhere closer to go to watch movies you would be out of business. Canal Walk is even worse as their tickets are always booked out and I dont really want to go through all the hassle of paying for the parking, walking into a jam packed mall and guessing which side the movie i want to watch is showing.

Bayside Ster Kinekor other than your tickets being really cheap you suck.  Your snack counter is a mess, it is always messy around there and you let kids run amock! Their seems to be no management and your staff behind the snack counter needs an upgrade.

Your aircon is also piss cold thanks, we are in the middle of winter and if you dont give out blankets very soon I might just wait for the movie to come out on DVD and rather watch it in the comfort of my own clean home, with popcorn at my call. I might miss the salt and vinegar spice but hey I will give that up any day to not be frustrated by your rather pathetic operation there.

Get the queue straps to be in place, get 4 staff behind the counter to serve your movie go-ers  4 queue’s at a time and you wont have this problem. Get the staff to stop dreaming behind the counter and dont train them at peak hour with a new release. Get your stock upgraded and checked, be fully stocked at all times over weekends. Clean up at the spice counters and have a floor manager to keep the kids from disturbing the movie experience. You are the only movie house around this area and I think it sucks that you take the piss out of us. You know we have nowhere to go so you give us slack service.

Anyway this is my two cents worth, I go to the movies every single weekend and have done so at the Bayside Cinema for well over a year. So just say there is so much I can take …

V&A Waterfront - Nu Metro

V + A Waterfront, Breakwater Boulevard, Waterfront, Cape Town.
Tel. (021) 419-9700   V&A@numetro.co.za !

Friday night was very busy. We went to go see Rambo and pre-booked the tickets so that we did not have to queue for the tickets. When we arrived there it was already a mad house and at the ticket box we had to wait in a massive queue to swipe our credit card for the tickets. Teenagers were trying to book and pay for tickets and they could not operate the system and their credit cards kept on getting declined. It was not very user friendly when trying to book tickets. But pre-booked tickets were quite easy, you could just swipe your card and your tickets would print.

When we could finally go to get our normal dose of popcorn and slush there was a massive line and although it went substantially fast there were not enough staff or stock to service the popcorn hungry movie mongers that night. The two main popcorn machines were out of order and they weren’t popping them fast enough.  The slush was not iced and could not be served and the machine coke was really horrible. Anyway we got our popcorn 5 minutes into the add breaks and Rambo was not really that packed. I think they did a terrible job advertising it. I think the producers thought that it would advertise itself. But for active people who don’t veg in front of the telly and don’t go to the movies that often you would not  have known that Rambo was showing.

Anyway big ups to the sound, seats and big screen at the V&A, it was great watching the movie there and although the service was friendly and fast you need more staff on such busy nights and be prepared with your refreshments.

Canal Walk Nu Metro

The revamped Nu Metro is truly amazing, the screens are wonderful the seats are like flying first class and the sound new! I love to watch movies here after work with a friend. I must admit though that there setup with the ticket sales is a bit jaded. It seems to have been a good idea at the beginning, and i can see how and why they would want the ticket sales to be done at the refreshment counter. But to choose a movie and to see what is showing poses a nightmare.

There are no listings except for what you find in a scrappy book. There are now marketing posters for the movies showing except for when you enter the movie.

Other than that Nu Metro in Canal Walk is great, if it where closer I would have made it my choice of movie house.

Bayside Centre - Ster kinekor

The Ster Kinekor at Bayside Centre is always packed on a Friday. It seems to be the local hang out for kids and I dont blame them. I do however get frustrated when they run around in the movie house screaming and disrupting the peace. The tickets are however very cheap and the seats are not allocated. Which is frustrating at times especially when there is a new release. The queue is absolutely daunting. The service at the refreshment counter is somewhat slow but I can imagine how those ladies must feel serving 20 kids at a time.

The seats inside are okay and the sound terrible most of the time. We do go back as it is very convenient and just around the corner from where we stay.

For a laid back where your jeans and tekkies movie day Bayside Mall is the way to go.
