Rocking the Daisies - Darling
Our Fun October 7th, 2008We were looking forward to the festival since last year that we went and sadly I must admit I was very disappointed. Firstly when we got there we had to park our car almost 2km from the camping spot, wait for the truck to load the hundreds of campers and unload them again at the site. We couldn’t wait and took our tent, blow up mattress, cooler bag, tog bag, and sleeping gear and lugged it for the entire 2km. When we got to the gate of the camp we still had another 200m to carry all our gear before we could set up camp.
Anyway it was worth it and we could finally pitch the tent and go see some bands. I forgot to read the news update and didn’t take gum boots with. So I was sludging through the mud to get wherever I needed to go. My shoes were stuck in the mud and soon my pants were soaked and hardened from the mud splashes. Not that I am only complaining it is an amazing festival but needs some upgrading. The Band line up wasn’t as good as the last year and some of the lead singers could not be heard properly due to logistics. But needless to say we had a good time and although the toilets weren’t the best at times and the food ridiculously expensive we will consider going again. Only if we don’t sleep over.
The place is an absolute mess and litter galaxy the next morning and not only is it rough on the eyes the smell is horrible as well. So no thanks I don’t want to be there the morning after. The wind is also terrible at that time of year and most of the tents were either torn or just blown away. I was knocked on the head a couple of times by the tent not holding fast.
I know I must sound like a total moan groan but they really need to make a plan with the camping arrangements, VIP Tickets and Band Line up. We had VIP tickets but it didnt really mean anything, we had an allocated bar with a white little picket fence people jumped over anyway.
But alas it all depends on who you are with and we were with good company. Watching the rockers was really entertaining by itself. The outfits, the fashion, the hats, shoes and attitude was worth experiencing.
So packing up the next morning we prepared our gear “carry friendly” and headed back to the car.

Completely agree… The festival rocked but the organisation SUCKED!!! We also arrived on Sat and had to wait for the truck to take us to the camping area. Most of my friends decided to walk but I had too many things (cooler bag, mattress, bag, food, blanket and pillow…. etc). A lot of people had to leave a lot of things behind. We waited for over an hour before we actually made it into the truck and once we were in it was hot smelly and dusty.
Once I finally found my friends (who arrived on Fri), I needed to pee. There were only 4 toilets for the 4 surrounding campsites. 3 of the toilets were beyond disgusting and the Q for the half decent one was long.
The mud didnt bother me even though I didn’t have wellies. What bothered me was the lack of dustbins (especially at the area where they had the ‘access control’ over the bridge at the bottom of the dam.
Once inside the main tent I didn’t see any toilets. We were forced to go in the bushes behind the booze tent (which seemed to be the preferred place). Half the toilets behind the electronic tent were also disgusting.
Sat night was possibly the coldest night of my life. Why don’t they have the festival closer to December?
On Sunday morning we got a lift to the car to try and bring it back in to pick up our stuff, but alas, we were prevented from doing so by twp burly guards. WTF?
So, like you, we packed up our gear and trekked back to the car.
I think that the music was awesome but all in all it was a let down. I won’t be attending next year. I feel that day concerts such as My Coke Fest are far more worthwhile than the pain that we were put through at the Daisies.
Ironically on the tickets it says leave your attitude behind… But I experienced far more attitude from the organisers than we were dishing out. I don’t see why we should be punished for their bad organisation. They should have at least let us drive our car back in on Sunday to pick up our gear.
And one last thing: who the hell was that chick with the high pitched voice using phrases like ’silly billy’?

i’m sorry i missed it, missed it last year too, planning was poor, anyway sure it will be more eco friendly next year as well as bigger, the question is, will people still go? Would you?
