Crabs Creek After Party - Knysna Oyster Festival

What were the Heineken sponsors thinking ? BOOOO !!!

I have had the pleasure of partaking in the annual Knysna Marathon After Party and the off-shoot of the event which can only be described as a beer fest of biblical proportions.

I must add thought that there were way too many events to go to this year and the Heineken after party must have been a disaster. The Crabs Creek After party is legendary and with Prime Circle playing all over the show it was hard to choose were to go to. But we stayed Loyal and headed to Crabs Creek and no doubt about it there was one hec of a party going on the entire day. We were at the Heineken after party at 18:00 just to check it out and there was nothing happening. I was quite excited about dancing to Lady Lea but there was nothing happening and when we hit Crabs Creek I knew why. There were once again thousands of people dancing and partying the night away. Some with sore legs from the run and some fresh out of their sleeping bags - those who only come for the party.

We left because they stopped the music at 2 ?? Anyway we thought we could go to the Heineken spot afterwards but they were cleaning up.

Rock on CRABS CREEK and lets hope they have the Heineken tent at Crabs Creek next year with Prime Circle on the same grounds … We can all be in one spot partying the night away next year.

Hottest Campsite in Knysna - WOODBOURNE

woodbourne.gif

Well planned , level and well-grassed sites with plenty of room for family fun, served by immaculate ablution blocks. Woodbourne’s extensive park-like grounds, make sure that campers and caravanners are never crowded, one of many reasons holidaymakers return year after year. Here you can relax and have a holiday in a private estate only 5 minutes walk from the famous Knysna Heads.  True country ambiance within a 5 km drive from all the amenities of Knynsa itself. The surrounding area is famed for its beauty , with coast, mountain and forest walks in great variety, miles of unspoilt beaches, excellent sea, rock and river fishing, lagoon and deep sea cruises, the famous Choo Choo, and with golf, tennis, squash, bowls clubs close by, all happy and eager to welcome visitors. Woodbourne adjoins a private vlei which is a waterbird sanctuary so special that it attracts migrant waders from as far as Siberia.

We go here every year for the Knysna Oyster Festival and most of the runners come to overnight here for the race on the Saturday. There is an after party that same night and Knysna is buzzing over this wonderful festive period. The Party is the equivalent of a New Years party at Crabs Creek and you will have a fantastic time. But more on that in another blog.

This campsite has a wonderful reception area and the staff is amazing, we met Kara and this young lady was so pleasant and very informative. The campsite is really well kept and the prices are really good. The ablution facilities are immaculate and you can buy wood at reception and get a braai for 100 rand deposit. It is close to everything. We meet the usual’s there every year. Although freezing cold at the time of the festival, there is nothing a bottle of Old Brown Sherry cannot sort out.

This is a recommended site and very safe. We have never had any disturbances or theft !! Going back as soon as we have the chance.

MAD BAD & DANGEROUS TO KNOW

A autobiography by Ranulph Fiennes

ranulf.jpg

MOST people spend their 60s contemplating a well-earned retirement. Sir Ranulph Fiennes is currently spending his grappling with the joys of new fatherhood and planning his next attempt on the world’s highest peak.

But then the Baronet turned global adventurer has never trodden an orthodox path.

His staggering achievements to date include the only successful circumnavigation of the globe on its polar axis, becoming the first person to walk unaided across Antarctica, and an unimaginable seven marathons on seven continents in seven days, just months after a heart by-pass operation.

This year he raised millions for Marie Curie Cancer Care by scaling the notorious north face of the Eiger, despite suffering vertigo.

His autobiography, Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know therefore makes compulsive reading, if only because you can’t imagine how anyone, never mind this most English of Englishmen, could manage to overcome such outrageously difficult challenges and still come back for more.

In this Outloud interview Fiennes talks about what pushes him on, his two fleeting associations with the movie world - one welcome, one that almost earned him a prison sentence - and learning to change nappies.

Freedom Writers - True Story

Movies No Comments »

freedom.jpg

If you ever think you have it bad and your life is hard, this story eloquently reminds us of the harder times people faced in the past like for example the Holocaust !

Hilary Swank stars in this gripping story of inner city kids raised on drive-by shootings and hard-core attitude - and the teacher who gives them the one thing they need most: a voice of there own. Dropped into the free-fire zone of a school torn by violence and racial tension, teacher Erin Gruwell battles an uncaring system in a fight to make the classroom matter in her students lives. Now, telling their own stories, and hearing the stories of others, a group of supposedly “unteachable” teens will discover the power of tolerance, reclaim their shattered lives, and change their world.

This film was terrific! Very good! The acting by everyone, especially by Hilary Swank, was great. If you are in the mood for an inspirational film than you should go see this film. It puts you in a really good mood and makes you feel great! ‘Freedom Writers’ was filled with drama, humor, and more. It was a really nice film and a must see. ‘Freedom Writers’, has something for everybody. It is a film that people will love no matter what and who they are. A++++++ **** Go see this great film! It will literally set you in a good mood. P.S. It will probably make you cry so bring that special tissue box used for whatever your tears need!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Movies No Comments »

sarah.jpg

This movie was great, no nonsense fabulous humor - you would laugh your head off. At least I did.

When you’ve got a good job and a world-famous girlfriend, you’ve got it all, right?!? Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a Coming of Age story told well and acted better. Peter Bretter (played by Jason Segal and also the movies writer) is a man too comfortable, sitting on his couch-world, to grasp that everyone must grow up and in the process, change or people will leave him behind.

Peter writes/performs the musical score to a successful TV drama in which his girlfriend, Sarah Marshall, is the lead actress. Sarah leaves Peter, and thus starts Peters journey with the help of friends, to realize that he didnt really like the life he was living. They help him forget Sarah Marshall to grow and change his life for the better.

Peter’s half-brother (Bill Hader as Brian Bretter) is the reflection Peter sees in the mirror and is reluctant to embrace –in a relationship with responsibilities to a partner that goes beyond physical presence. [Interesting to note the evolution of Mr. Segal from his supporting role as Jason in 2007s Knocked Up another coming of age movie for 20-somethings…the movie is filled with internal compare/contrasts to itself and the Actor’s other works and real-life asperations. How much is intentional and how much is coincident is left to the viewer, but this is a smartly written adult comedy.]

Kristen Bell as the title’s “Sarah Marshall” does well with the material — her character is mult-dimensional as she is both the villain and the victim. While her character emotionally hurts Peter, she has cause as revealed in a fairly depicted series of flashbacks. [It is interesting to note, Sarah’s desire to break out from being a successful TV actress to movies is an interesting simile to Peter’s desire to break out from being a successful TV mood musician to aspiration to become a Rock Opera composer and Ms. Bell plays it well from the heart as if she also longs break out of the Veronica Mars role to her first leading actress role.]

But it is not just Peter that Sarah is running from; she has run into the arms of Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), a famous lead singing rock star. Snow almost steals the movie, with his philosophical musings and ability to play the guy you want to hate but wish was my best friend despite stealing my girlfriend role perfectly. In some ways Peter sees Snow as the worldly guy he wishes he was, but Peter realizes that he cannot be like Snow and force the world to take him as he is and be successful, but rather adapt to the world in his own terms to succeed. [Of course there are parallels when Snow plays to the crowd and to his girl and when Peter plays to another crowd and his girl…the men are more similar on stage than they realize, which may be why Peter likes Snow.] At the critical point, it is Snow’s unwillingness to grow that has him to move on and gives the opportunity he thought he sought — the chance to reunite with Sarah.

However, prior to getting to that point in the story, Peter gets off his real and proverbial couch to meet a series of people whom help him “forget” Sarah. Pride, self-worth and compromise are explored well without bogging down nor being too serious. Central to Peter’s growth are Chuck (Paul Rudd) and Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis). Chuck is the surfing instructor who sees the hurt behind Peters eyes and teaches him to stand on a surf board (another analogy for standing up for himself/getting back up when one is knocked down). While played at times for laughs, there are real life-lessons in what Chuck, Rachel and the other characters offer Peter. Ultimately, Peter stands up and realizes that his affection for Rachel is real and worth the risks to help out a friend. Through them, Peter breaks out and becomes the man he learns he wants to be and achieves the personal satisfaction and professional success he seeks.

The movie is rated R for (strong male and some female) nudity, sex scenes, language and alcohol use discussion about drugs. It is not recommended for young children.

1408

408.jpg

I wasnt really scared in this movie. It was really not that great, it was suspenseful but not scary.  Glad I never watched it in the cinema, perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The cynical and skeptical writer Mike Enslin writes books evaluating supernatural phenomena in hotels, graveyards and other haunted places, usually debunking the mystery. While writing his last book, he travels from Los Angeles to New York to spend one night in the evil room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel, which is permanently unavailable for guests. The reluctant manager Mr. Gerald Olin objects to his request and offers an upgrade, expensive booze and finally the reports relating the death of more than fifty guests along decades in the cursed room. However, Mike threatens Mr. Oiln, promising to sue the hotel, and finally checks in the room. Along the night, he finds that guests of room 1408 can check out when they like, but they can never leave the room alive. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Based on the short Stephen King horror story of the same name, 1408 is about supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two successful books on supernatural phenomena. As research for his latest book, Enslin is determined to check out the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room. He believes that 1408 is just a myth perpetuated by stories and rumors that Enslin has collected for his past works. However, hotel manager Mr. Olin has strong objections to Enslin’s stay and only warns him of possible danger to come. Enslin is determined to go anyway. But what Mike Enslin is about to experience is no myth, as 1408 truly is a room where the guests don’t check out by noon. Written by mystic80

Griffin and Phoenix

I absolutely loved this movie and it made me appreciate my life and health so much more. It was truly heartbreaking but their perfect love for each other made up for the heart sore and pain. Their characters where beautifully written and the two created magic on the big screen.

This is a story about living! The chemistry of the stars is fantastic, the music throughout the film is fantastic. Two people who fulfill each other’s dreams in ways that most couples never experience. Total honesty, is part of living life fully. This couple shows you how to create a a life worth living.
Griffin is divorced, living in a flat in Manhattan while his sons and ex live in the family home in Westchester. He gets bad news from his oncologist: cancerous lesions have spread through his chest, and he has only a year or so to live. He audits a psychology class on death and dying at a nearby college where he chats up a woman who turns out to be an assistant dean. She’s Phoenix; she smiles but keeps her distance, warming to him slowly. He tells her nothing of his situation. At his apartment a few days later, she finds a stash of books on death, dying, and terminal illness: will she put two and two together, and what will she do about it?  Written by {jhailey@hotmail.com}
