A German tourist has died while paragliding near the slopes of Table Mountain, police said on Monday.

“A 50-year-old German national died as a result of a faulty glider today (Monday),” said Captain Elliot Sinyangana.

The man was identified as Thomas Steckmeister and was part of a group of paragliders from Germany touring the country.

Steckmeister sustained fatal injuries after falling.

His body was being kept at a police mortuary in Cape Town. - Sapa

Several people were trapped in cable cars on Table Mountain until late on Monday evening after they stopped working due to a power cut. Hundreds of people were stuck on the mountain, waiting to go down. According to Abdul Akoonjee of Durban, who was in the bottom cable car, the electricity went off around 19:45 when they had gone up about 3m along the cable. “We were stuck for two-and-a-half hours.

People started becoming panicky and we had to calm them down,” he told Hanlie Gouws. Eventually rescue workers could open the bottom of the cable car and helped the passengers to abseil to safety. Akoonjee said it was very hot in the cable car as the door could not open and especially a Brazilian woman with a heart condition, became agitated. “Now we will first look for something to eat,” he said. According to a source on the mountain, two older people in the top cable car fell ill.

At 23:30, the cable cars were tested first before those people waiting on top of the mountain, could be brought down. Johan Theron, one of the people stuck in the top cable car, said some of the people tried to jump out. “We were halfway out of the cable car station and then we were stuck,” he said. According to him, the cable car started moving again, but then stopped. According to an employee of the cable car company, a power cut caused the cable cars to stop operating. He said they struggled for about an hour to get the generator working. Ilse Lötter, who was on Table Mountain on Monday night, said about 500 people were trapped on the mountain.

At about 22:46, there was an announcement that they were busy freeing people stuck in the cable cars and people were still on the mountain, said Lötter. “I don’t see people being upset. Everyone is rather jolly, but I think the people in the cable cars are a bit upset,” said Lötter on Monday evening. The cable car company could not be reached for comment.

I started watching the American based Biggest Loser and was totally captivated after seeing the results. They went absolutely crazy loosing their weight and to have seen them transformed and seeing their entire lives change on national TV I was really geared to go even in my personal life to loose my mere 5kg that has been bugging me. The program was very emotional but I was really astounded by the Americans and their performance. So of course when the SA version started I was glued to see the beginning and was set to not miss one single program. I am truly disappointed at this version though as all the people in the house are truly not focussed on losing weight and through all the skinner and game planning I have lost total interest. It is like they imagine themselves to be in Survivor SA instead of the Biggest Loser. The woman are the most frustrating and I have been used to bitchiness in my life but man I really didn’t imagine FULL grown woman to act in this manner - and excuse the pun !!I really hope the instructors pull them together and sort them out !!! This show is a disgrace to our SA standards!!I am eagerly waiting to be corrected, but these contestants should really focus at the tasks at hand.

I have wanted to watch this movie for a very long time now and never use to get to the end. But last night was the perfect lazy sunday night to watch it and I did, the whole nine yards of it. Vin Diesel has never been one of my favorites but I am starting to grow on him. Man he is super sexy and although sometimes I wish he would just not talk, he is surely a top 8 on my list. The movie was great to just sit back and relax and prepare for the week.

The Fast & The Furious is loosely based on an article in a magazine about street clubs that race Japanese cars late at night. The film stars Vin Diesel as Domenic Toretto, the leader of a street gang that is under suspicion of stealing expensive electronic equipment. Paul Walker plays an undercover police officer that attempts to find out who exactly is stealing the equipment, while falling for Domenic’s younger sister played by Jordana Brewster. Even though I sometimes struggle to take to Hugh Grant I found him extremely cheery and eccentric and sexy in this movie. Drew is always a winner and in this movie I could relate to the passion of her writing. My dream of course to also maybe write a famous song one day or best seller. This movie is inspiring, fun and dramatic. A CHICK FLICK of note and truly enjoyable. Even my boyfriend who loathes Hugh Grant enjoyed this one !!

After our rock climbing we came home with fingers stiff and skin ripped. Muscles panting. I would like to take on the rock climbing as a hobby. We stopped at the dvd shop and rented Reign over Me. I truly found this movie heartbreaking but it spells out a very simple truth. We should not try and change people who have found their way of dealing with something. Except them for who they are and JUST LET THEM BE. To suffer loss and experience that kind of grief can only be understood once you have lost someone close to you.

Pringle Bay is where people go to get away from the rat race and plug in to nature again. They walk among the fynbos and sit for hours contemplating life, befriending their thoughts. Pringle bay is just an hour’s drive away from Capetown right next door to the beautiful Betty’s bay, part of the Kogelberg Biosphere. Over the December holidays we were celebrating our one year dating aniversary and decided to head out to Pringle Bay for a celebration lunch. We ended up at a restaurant called @365 and left after waiting more than 20 min to be served and a further 15 min just to bring our drinks order. It was our special day and we didnt want the hustle and bustle to destroy our special day. So all we did was walked across to Bar Beyond.

Bar Beyond (or BBY as the locals lovingly refer to it) was friendly and even felt like we were part of the locals. Their food and service was awesome and with the free jukebox to play our every favorite tune, the bad experience across the road seemed like a distant memory.

- BarBeyond is basically the Cheers of Pringle Bay.

But, Bar Beyond (or BBY as the locals lovingly refer to it) is my favourite local place to hang out. This is where I have many glasses of red wine in front of the fire, meet friends, just chill, catch up with life, have long conversations with locals, listen to good music and enjoy the best food on earth prepared by Michelle - BarBeyond is basically the Cheers of Pringle Bay.

Our visit - Leaving Citrusdal on our visit to THE BATHS we decided to travel along the westcoast to explore a little as I have not really seen much of the westcoast upon my moving to the lovely Western Cape. We decided to stop over at Port Owen and check out the Marina and I saw my lovely Leapord CAT which I did capture with me in the middle of the picture with my thumbs up. Surrounding this area was a lovely vlei with fisherman strewn across the waters and some salt pans that decorated this lovely place.

Definitely worth a stop over and maybe one day a location to settle.

We went there for sushi last night and was really impressed with our waitress MINI and her service and friendly smile, the food was great and super affordable. Two bottles of wine and ample sushi between 4 people came up to about R 340 including her tip. It was a wonderful experience and the place was bustling.
